Social Security Trips

Almost every Wednesday at 10:00am, International House staff provide a ride to the Social Security Office. If you want to go with the Ihouse van be at International House, 2022 Campus Drive, by 9:45 AM. If you need to go to the Internal Revenue Service to apply for an ITIN number, we can take you then as well.

 The schedule changes in August/September and January so please check this website or call our office for details.  Tel 684.3585.

  Important! What you must bring:

• Your passport and I-94 card;
• Your DS-2019, I-797, or I-20; (If you have an I-20 you MUST also have a job on campus)
• The letter from Duke Visa Services to the Social Security Administration.

Because of possible delays in the system, you should NOT apply for a Social Security card until you have been in the U.S. at least  business 10 days.

Remember, if you have an F-1 visa, you MUST have a job on campus in order to be able to apply for a Social Security Number. For more information, call 684-3585 or email us (ihouse@duke.edu).
