Yoko coordinates International Undergraduate Orientation and Language Partners Program, in addition to advising International Association.  She also prepares Intl-Flash, a weekly electronic newsletters to internationa students and scholars at Duke.  Yoko is from Japan but spent five years of her childhood in Dallas, Texas. This experience brought her attention to the excitement of meeting people around the globe, learning about different languages and cultures, and calling herself a global citizen. Her enthusiasm to bridge and connect people guided her to complete a Master’s degree in International Education from the SIT Graduate Institute in Vermont.

She moved from Boston to Durham in the summer of 2008 so she went through a similar transition like you!  She is more than happy to share some of her unique experiences being an outsider both in her own country and in a foreign country.  On a side note, she’s teaching herself Korean and Portuguese!  Any tips on learning those languages?  Stop by and say “Hello!” or send her an email at yoko.hisano@duke.edu!
